Sakura Rose Murakami

Hi my name is Sakura and I am a part of the pre-professional program here at Epiphany. I first started ballet in Japan when I was 3 years old, and have had a passion for performance ever since. I completed RAD Advanced 2 last year. Before joining the team at Epiphany I solely focused on my ballet training. At Epiphany I have been exposed to a wide variety of dance styles and techniques, and have enjoyed every minute of exploring and developing my performing abilities. I believe that dance is a unique pursuit, as it is not only a sport in the physical movement sense, but also an art which engages emotions of not only the dancer but the audience as well.

I have been blessed with so many exceptional performance opportunities throughout the years. In 2018, I performed at the New Prague Dance Festival, and spent an additional week in Prague at the New Prague Dance Festival Summer Intensive. In 2019, I auditioned for and was ultimately selected to take part in the Royal Ballet School Spring Intensive.  I enjoyed a week of intense ballet training in Hong Kong with esteemed teachers such as Steve McRae and Dame Darcey Bussell alongside 19 other exceptionally talented ballerinas from all around the world.  At this time I was also a founding member and integral part of the Macarthur Youth Ballet, where I performed principal roles in full length traditional ballets, such as the White Swan in Swan Lake, Aurora in Sleeping Beauty, and Queen of the Dryads in Don Quixote. More recently, I have performed with Epiphany’s own pre-professional troupe at events such as the Crochet Guild Australia show.  It is amazing being part of a group of talented dancers that enjoy performing as much as I do.

I was awarded a Premier’s All Rounder Award for academic achievement in the HSC Honour Roll in 2023, having achieved Band 6 results in all my HSC units. I am now a first year student at the University of Sydney, studying a double degree of Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) and Bachelor of Project Management.  A little different than where I envisaged being at 12, but I truly believe the years of creativity, rigour, time management and discipline in my ballet training allowed me to achieve my full potential academically.
