An Epiphany Moment Dance Competition

A COMPETITION WITH A DIFFERENCE….
· We are striving to create an inclusive and inspiring environment for all competitors.
· We want to strip it all back and keep it all about the authenticity of movement.
· We want to celebrate the joy of dance, the appreciation of the artform and the power of self-expression through improvisation.
· We invite all dancers at any level to enter, you do not need to be a ‘private lesson’ or competition student to enter.
· No ‘costumes’ are permitted.
· Competitors may wear their own choice of leotard or dance attire. However, you can accessorise your hair (for example).
· No costumes are permitted for student choreography – dance attire only.
· All music choice (for Student Choreography), choreography and dance attire must be appropriate.
· The event will be hosted, with an engaging compere to keep the audience involved and competitors interacting and having fun!
· We want our audience to also enjoy and feel part of the experience!
· All IMPROV sections will be 1.30 minutes long for 12 years and over.
· All IMPROV sections will be 1 minute long for 10 years and under sections.
· A time limit of 2 minutes for Student Choreography sections.
· Student Choreography music must be brought on the day on USB (MP3 format) or CD.
ENTRY FEES:
· $15.00 per Improv Solo.
· $15.00 per Student Choreography (solos & duos).
· $20.00 Dance Off Champion 12/Under (prize money awarded).
· $20.00 Dance Off Champion 13/Over (prize money awarded).
· Competitors will be performing on the dance floor (no wings).
· Dance floor dimensions: 9x11metres
· Adjudication and presentation will happen on an awards podium on the stage.
ADMISSION PRICES:
· There will be no cash facilities on the door.
· EFTPOS facilities will be available.
· $18.00 Adult Pre-Paid Day Pass.
· $10.00 Child/Age Pensioner Pre-Paid Day Pass.
VIDEO & PHOTOGRAPHY:
· Taking video of your own child/competition will be permissible.
· Cost: a gold coin donation that will go to “In Dance We Unite” – Flood Appeal.
· Photography: photos will be taken throughout the day including each Award Presentation (by an amateur photographer).
· Photos will be uploaded to a google drive for access by all competitors post event.
· Audience and competitors will be encouraged to post and share on Instagram during the event.
COMPS ONLINE:
· Closing: 31 July 2022 or will close when maximum capacity is reached.
· Club Bistro and facilities available the day.
· No late entries will be accepted once maximum capacity is reached.

AN EPIPHANY MOMENT CATEGORIES
CATEGORY 1: IMPROV SECTIONS
Solo IMPROV Section Age Groups: 6/U, 8/U, 10/U, 12/U, 14/U & 15 and Over
The IMPOV sections are offered in the following genres:
· Jazz
· Lyrical
· Contemporary
· Classical Ballet
IMPROV FORMAT
· Each competitor will hear the music only once.
· Competitors will be marshalled to another space (outside the auditorium) while the 1st competitor listens to the music.
· Competitor 2 will listen to the music while competitor 1 is dancing, so on and so forth.
· Competitors will be scored on 4 criteria: creativity & originality, musicality, artistry, and technical ability.
CATEGORY 2: STUDENT CHOREOGRAPHY
· Solo Student Choreography Section Age Groups: 10/U, 12/U, 14/U, 15 and Over.
· Duo Student Choreography Section Age Groups: 10/U, 12/U, 14/U, 15 and Over. *Based on the oldest competitor.
· No costumes are permitted for Student Choreography – dance attire only.
· Open genre – competitors can choice any genre (excluding tap).
· A time limit of 2 minutes for Student Choreography sections.
· Competitors will be scored on 4 criteria: creativity & originality, musicality, artistry, and technical ability.
· Music to be provided by USB (MP3 format) or CD.
CATEGORY 3: ALL IN – DANCE OFF CHAMPION
· All in Dance off Champion Section Age Groups: 12/U and 13 and Over.
· All competitors will IMPROV together on the dance floor, the judging panel will select competitors to proceed to the next round, until 1 dancer is left dancing and awarded Dance Off Champion!
· Each round will be approximately 0.45 seconds long.
· Each round will have a different piece of music.
· Each round will expect the competitor to show a different genre and artistic expression.
· Number of rounds will depend on number of entrants and the adjudicating panel’s selection decisions.
· The Dance Off Champion Category – will challenge the dancer’s creativity, artistry, technical ability, versality and stamina.
ADJUDICATION/AWARDS
· An Epiphany Moment will have a panel of 2 adjudicators from diverse backgrounds.
· We value the importance of feedback – each competitor will receive a written report.
· Scores will be combined for an overall score.
· Adjudication will take place after each section.
· Placings: 1st, 2nd & 3rd placings will be awarded if there are more than 5 competitors in each section.
· Prizes – placings will be recognised with a beautiful sash and awarded a medal on the “Epiphany Moment” podium.
· Dance Off Champion Winner 12/Under – cash prize: $200.00 (plus sash)
· Dance Off Champion Winner 13/Over – cash prize: $400.00 (plus sash)
RULES AND REGULATIONS:
· The rules set the conditions of the competition and must be respectfully followed to ensure we have a fantastic event experience.
· Competitors compete strictly at their own risk; no responsibility will be taken for accidents, injury or loss of property. This includes all persons present as well as the competitors.
· All competitors/ teachers are responsible for ensuring they have appropriate insurance and licensing with APRA/ AMCOS.
· “An Epiphany Moment” is for amateur performers only - anyone earning a full-time wage from performing may not enter this eisteddfod.
· Age is taken as of the day of competition. Proof of age may be required at any time during the eisteddfod. If your age is questioned you will need to provide proof of age, or risk disqualification.
· The Committee reserves the right to combine, divide or cancel any sections if there are insufficient entries.
· All entry fees are non-refundable. All entries must be paid for by the due date stated previously or you may incur a late fee or jeopardise your entry into the eisteddfod.
· Adjudication will be at the end of every section. No one is permitted to approach the adjudicating panel at any time. The decision of the Adjudication Panel is final.
· Places will be awarded depending on entries.
· Please note sections can be altered at the discretion of organisers, depending upon entries received.
